The objective of this policy is to guide charitable giving, from the Garden State All Terrier Club Inc. (“GSATC” or “the Club”) Treasury, that advances the Club’s purpose to promote Terrier welfare. Taking into account that GSATC has limited resources, this purpose may be advanced by planned giving to a known entity in the form of a set annual contribution or it may be a one-time donation in an emergency situation. In any such case a donation must be to help Terriers in need.
Club donations will be limited to organizations dedicated to the welfare of and service to Terriers.
Contribution to individuals, fundraisers, political or religious causes is not allowed.
Consideration of a charitable donation must be based on personal knowledge of the facts and circumstances. News articles, internet announcements, telephone contacts or third party solicitations may ultimately lead to a donation but should not serve as the exclusive basis for either a Board recommendation for a donation or for the donation of Club funds.
Any contemplated donation in excess of $100.00 must be approved by the membership.
Acknowledgement of any donation is required. It should be printed on the organization’s letterhead and specify the amount of the donation. It should be directed to the Club Secretary for inclusion in the Club’s records.
This policy does not affect the Janet Weiss Fund. Currently the GSATC is custodian of The Janet Weiss Fund which was specifically designed to help a member facing a severe emergency. This fund was started with personal donations from members to help the Weiss family when their home was flooded as a result of Hurricane Irene in 2011. The Weiss family replaced the donated money with a donation of their own with the wish that the fund be used to help a member who was facing a similar emergency (e.g. fire, flood). The Garden State All Terrier Club is holding that money in a fund to be used only in case of a member meeting this criteria. There are no Club funds associated with this.
